2023 Reading in Review

I thought there was no better way to take a look back at 2023 than with a picture of the books the year brought us. Yes, all of the books shown on these shelves were published in 2023. No, it does not show all of the 2023 releases I have. 😳😔 ⁣

This is typically where I compare the goals I set at the start of 2023 with what I actually achieved. However, 2023 sent me for some loops and road bumps I did not see coming. Primarily, I did not anticipate my spouse developing leukemia. While the leukemia journey is not over, I am simply happy to be here and still be able to read books next to my partner. When people say the number of books you read does not matter, they are saying that as long as it is bringing you joy, stress relief, or whatever your intention for it is, reading is a success each and every day you do it.⁣

While all of that is true, I will still share some of my numbers as well as reading insights from 2023. I reached my goal of 125 books. Technically, I read 122 + DNF’ed 4 books, and I deem that to be 125 books worth of reading. 😁⁣

In 2023, I also really embraced audiobooks. I still struggle with reading fiction in this format but am happy just consuming nonfiction this way.⁣

I also leaned into “lighter” books to counter the heaviness of my life and the world. As a result, I read less literary and contemporary fiction and read more romance and thrillers. ⁣

I also discovered a love for speculative fiction in 2023. This is not a genre I have previously read, but thanks to a few gems, I am wholeheartedly seeking more speculative fiction going forward.⁣

Oh, and I cannot forget to mention that I met my first bookstagram friend IRL! 🥰

Because I refuse to compile a list until after the new year since I am not finished reading until the clock strikes midnight, keep an eye out in the next few days for my favorite books of 2023.

Thank you all for being here with me and for all the likes, shares, messages, & comments. 😘⁣

Happy reading in 2024 & beyond! ❤
