This month, hints labeled as “Easter Eggs.” In the video hints, a plastic Easter egg is opened to reveal three slips of paper with written phrases.

You can find my Book of the Month predictions for April 2025 here.

Book #1

This hint could not have been more obvious. If you pull up the Amazon listing for The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits, you will see the listing title states, “Two Sisters’ Rise to Fame in the Early 2000s in This Heartfelt Glimmering Story of Second Chances.”

The Griffin Sisters Greatest Hits

Jennifer Weiner

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Weiner comes The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits, a deeply moving novel set against the glitz and chaos of early 2000s pop stardom. Equal parts heartfelt family saga and behind-the-scenes look at fame, this is a story about sisters, secrets, and the power of second chances.

Cassie and Zoe Grossberg were thrust into the spotlight as The Griffin Sisters, a pop duo that defined the aughts. Together, they skyrocketed to the top, gracing MTV, SNL, and the cover of Rolling Stone. Cassie, a musical genius who never felt at ease in her own skin, preferred to stay in the shadows. Zoe, full of confidence and craving fame, lived for the stage. But fame has a price, and after one turbulent year, the band abruptly broke up.

Now, two decades later, the sisters couldn’t be further apart. Zoe is a suburban mom warning her daughter Cherry to avoid the spotlight, while Cassie has disappeared from public life entirely. But when Cherry begins unearthing the truth behind their breathtaking rise and infamous breakup, long-buried secrets surface, forcing all three women to confront their choices, their desires, and their complicated bonds.

With richly developed characters, a nostalgic nod to the pop culture of the 2000s, and a resonant tale of ambition, forgiveness, and family, The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits will captivate readers from the first note to the final encore. Whether you’ve followed Jennifer Weiner for years or are discovering her for the first time, this book is a must-read for music lovers, fans of sisterly dramas, and anyone who cherishes a great story of second chances.

Book #2

This was a tougher hint since it sounds like it will not yet be published in the U.S. or Canada.

The Sun Was Electric Light

Rachel Morton

A beautifully told story about a disillusioned woman searching for love and belonging from the winner of the 2024 VPLA Unpublished Manuscript Award.

Perfect for fans of Deborah Levy and Rachel Cusk, The Sun Was Electric Light explores what it means to live a good life. ‘I read this pure, pained, beautiful book in a single burst, and emerged from it with heart and nerves rinsed clean.’ – Helen Garner

Disillusioned with her life in New York, Ruth returns to a lake town in Guatemala where she had been happy a decade earlier. There, in Panajachel, she meets two very different women- the calm and practical Emilie, and the turbulent and intoxicating Carmen.

Deciding to stay and build a life at the lake, Ruth finds work first as a nanny to a wealthy local family, then as an English teacher at a village school. Meanwhile, she becomes increasingly infatuated by her friendship with Carmen, pushing away the stability of her connection with Emilie. As Carmen’s fragile relationship with the world splinters, the difference between being a visitor and truly belonging becomes clear, and Ruth is forced to act. The Sun Was Electric Light is a sublime novel about searching for belonging and a life that makes sense.

Book #3

The books that jumped to mind with this hint were Passion Project by London Sperry and Summer in the City by Alex Aster. Based upon the synopses, I am leaning towards Passion Project. When I looked at the listing, there are several past BOTM authors that have blurbed Passion Project.

Passion Project

London Sperry

If your twenties are supposed to be the best years of your life, Bennet Taylor is failing miserably . . . with a big emphasis on the miserable. Where’s that zest she keeps hearing about? She’s a temp worker in New York City with no direction, no future, and no social life. And at the painful center of this listlessness is grief over the death of her first love.

When Bennet runs into Henry Adams just hours after standing him up for a first date, she makes an alcohol-fueled confession: She’s not ready to date. In fact, it’s been years since she felt passion for something. Not even pottery, or organized sports—not anything. Rather than leaving her to ruminate, Henry jumps at the opportunity for adventure: Bennet needs to find a passion for life, and Henry will help her find it. Every Saturday, they’ll try something new in New York City. As friends, of course.

As their “passion project” continues, the pair tackle everything from carpentry to tattooing to rappelling off skyscrapers, and Bennet feels her guarded exterior ebbing away. But as secrets surface, Bennet has to decide what she wants, and if she’s truly ready to move on. With emotional resonance and sparkling banter, Passion Project is a fun, flirty, thoughtful story of finding a spark—and igniting happiness.
